If you haven't auditioned in a while, go on vacation! Murphy's Law will inevitably kick in. And you will be ready!
I have a reasonably small tripod with a phone mount, but even that can feel a little bulky, especially if I'm trying to pack light. So, my new favorite go-to "tripod" is actually a phone holder for the car. And I absolutely love it! It's made by Bipopibo, and according to the description, it has "military-grade suction"! (I'll leave that one right there.)
Aside from being super small, what's great is that I can attach it directly onto a window. And what that means is I can take full advantage of natural light.
Here's an example:
I didn't make any adjustments to the camera settings, but overall, I think the lighting here is great.
And because of this military-grade suction feature, I can opt to stick it to a wall, a fridge, or a mirror in the bathroom. The possibilities are endless!
And if I have to shoot my self-tape audition at night when there isn't any natural light, I can use my extremely portable King Ma Phone Light. It's super compact:
And it just clips to the phone:
Here are two shots from the suction mount: one without and one with the King Ma light:
So, there you have it! The super compact travel kit: the Bipopibo suction phone mount and the King Ma Phone Light. A great combination!
